Florida Grand Opera Highlights Legacy and Mission in South Florida
Florida Grand Opera is emphasizing its role as a leading producer of opera in South Florida, underscoring its focus on classic grand opera, contemporary works, and new commissions presented in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
Founded in 1941 as the Opera Guild of Greater Miami by Arturo Di Filippi, the company later merged with the Opera Guild of Fort Lauderdale in 1994. Now under the direction of Maria Todaro, Florida Grand Opera is recognized as the first producing arts organization in Florida and the seventh oldest opera company in the United States.
Through its Florida Grand Opera Studio, the company trains emerging artists who support world-class performers on its stages and participate in community performances, helping to bring landmark operatic works to audiences across South Florida.
