Feeding South Florida is observing Hunger Action Month this September, encouraging residents across Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties to "Go Orange" and stand against hunger. Created by Feeding America, the nationwide initiative raises awareness about food insecurity and inspires community action.

Currently, approximately one million families in South Florida face hunger, including nearly 500,000 children and seniors. To address this, Feeding South Florida is operating under the 2026 theme "More Than A Meal," emphasizing that hunger relief also provides dignity, stability, and hope to individuals and families in need.

To maximize community impact, Presenting Sponsor Delta Airlines is matching monetary donations dollar-for-dollar throughout September, up to $25,000. Every $1 donated allows the organization to provide approximately four meals to a family in need.

South Floridians can participate in Hunger Action Month through several local initiatives:

  • Hunger Action Day (Sept. 29): The community is invited to celebrate "Go Orange Day" by wearing a $25 "Hunger Heroes" t-shirt, available for purchase through the organization's online store.

  • Outrun Hunger 5K (Sept. 19): Held from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, this family-friendly event features a Kids Zone and local vendors. It will be emceed by Survivor finalist Noura Salman and television host Kirk Gimenez.

  • Pack to Give Back (Sept. 18): Corporate teams can volunteer at one of Feeding South Florida's warehouses from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM to sort food and pack meal boxes.

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Individuals and groups can sort food at regional warehouses or help prepare meals at the 5,000-square-foot Community Kitchen in Boynton Beach.

  • Community Drives: Supporters are encouraged to start online fund drives or host physical food drives to collect high-demand, shelf-stable products.

  • Dine Out: Participating local restaurants will donate a portion of select meals to support local families.

"Hunger Action Month reminds us that every meal is more than food on a plate. It represents dignity, stability and hope for a neighbor facing uncertainty," said Paco Vélez, president and CEO of Feeding South Florida. "When our community, volunteers and supporters come together, we strengthen an ecosystem that helps individuals and families not only overcome hunger but thrive."

The month-long initiative is supported by Presenting Sponsor Delta Airlines, alongside Premier Impact Partners Publix and Publix Supermarkets Charities. For volunteer registration, event tickets, or more information on how to get involved, visit the official Feeding South Florida event page.
