Extreme Sports Exhibition Opens at Frost Science in Miami on May 16

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Miami will open a new special exhibition, “Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits,” on Saturday, May 16, highlighting the physics, physiology, and psychology that drive high-risk athletic performance as the city prepares for a busy 2026 season of global sporting events, including FIFA World Cup 2026 matches.

Exhibition Overview

“Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits” is described by Frost Science as a high-energy exhibition that examines what happens when the human body, mind, and technology are pushed to their limits. Through a range of multimedia displays and interactive components, the exhibition explores how athletes scale rock faces, free dive to great depths, and navigate snow, air, and water using advanced equipment and refined skills.

The exhibition is designed to connect extreme athletic feats with underlying STEM concepts, offering visitors insight into how scientific principles shape performance, safety, and innovation in sport.

Interactive Experience

Inside the exhibition, visitors will find multiple interactive stations that allow them to test aspects of their own abilities, including strength, endurance, focus, and decision-making. These hands-on elements are intended to help guests compare their responses to those required in extreme sports settings.

The experience also features first-hand accounts from athletes who discuss how they manage failure, risk, and psychological pressure. Their stories are paired with displays of real artifacts and authentic extreme sports equipment, which are interpreted through the lens of engineering and design principles.

Immersive simulations further illustrate the forces at play in extreme environments, demonstrating how athletes contend with gravity, speed, weather, and variable terrain while assessing and managing risk.

Dates, Location, and Admission

“Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits” will be on view from Saturday, May 16, through Monday, September 7, inside the Hsiao Family Special Exhibition Gallery on the first floor of the museum.
