If you happen to be in Tokyo, don't miss the 20th anniversary of the Espace Louis Vuitton, which is celebrating two decades of artistic excellence alongside the 10th anniversary of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s Hors-les-murs program. To mark this double milestone, Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo is presenting a dedicated exhibition of works by South Asian diaspora artist Rina Banerjee. Known for her ability to transform found objects into mystical female sculptures and phantasmagorical installations, Banerjee’s work explores the complex intersections of culture, colonialism, and identity.

The exhibition, titled "You made me leave home...", features selected works from the Collection and is part of a global initiative to bring the Fondation’s holdings to international audiences in cities like Munich, Venice, Beijing, Seoul, and Osaka. Banerjee’s practice utilizes a striking array of materials—including ostrich eggs, vintage textiles, glass chandeliers, and coconut powders—to create "unexpected hybrids" that resist the colonial gaze. Her aesthetic is further informed by historic Indian miniature paintings and Aztec drawings, resulting in a visual language that exists in the liminal space between abstraction and representation.

Exhibition Details:

  • Dates: March 19, 2026 – September 13, 2026

Since its opening in 2014, the Fondation Louis Vuitton has welcomed over eleven million visitors, and this Tokyo exhibition continues its mission to foster global artistic dialogue. For travelers and art enthusiasts in Japan this season, the Rina Banerjee showcase offers a rare and immersive look at one of the most provocative voices in contemporary sculpture.
