Es Devlin and BREAKFAST Bring Free Public Art Experiences to Miami Art Week

As Miami Art Week approaches, two major Miami Beach landmarks — Faena Miami Beach and 1 Hotel South Beach — are turning their public spaces into open-access cultural sites. Beginning December 2, both hotels will debut large-scale installations that merge architecture, technology, and immersive art, inviting visitors and locals to experience museum-level work without ticketed entry.

At Faena Art, the cultural institution marks its tenth anniversary with a new commission by acclaimed British artist Es Devlin. Devlin, known for her monumental stage designs and contemplative public works, will introduce a trio of installations across the Faena Beach, Cathedral, and Project Room.

The centerpiece is Library of Us, a kinetic sculpture built from 2,500 books that have shaped the artist’s thinking. The work slowly rotates, inviting viewers into a changing environment of text, sound, and reflection. Inside Faena Cathedral, Reading Room extends the contemplative atmosphere, while the Faena Project Room will feature Devlin’s drawings and painted glass pieces, offering a broader view of her multidisciplinary practice. All installations will be free and open to the public from December 2–7, 1–9 p.m.

A few blocks north, 1 Hotel South Beach and Tala Beach will debut a technology-driven presentation by Brooklyn-based kinetic and data artist BREAKFAST. Curated by NicoleMarie Advisory, the exhibition uses real-time environmental statistics to shape moving sculptures and light-based works that respond to climate data.

From December 2–8, the hotel’s façade and beachside areas will feature Carbon Wake and Consumption, pieces that shift in response to global carbon output and resource use. Inside the hotel lobby, Arctic Ice, Water 80, and a newly created climate-focused series will remain on view through January 5, 2026. These works act as living visualizations of temperature patterns, oceanic shifts, and other atmospheric conditions—merging art, science, and ecological awareness.

Together, Faena and 1 Hotel are expanding Miami Art Week beyond traditional fair spaces, embedding ambitious creative projects directly into the city’s public life.
