Emerge Broward is calling on local nonprofits to apply for its signature Board Engagement Program, now through October 31, 2025.
This program provides the area’s nonprofits with an opportunity to match with Emerge Broward members who have gone through the full training program and understand the roles and responsibilities of serving on a nonprofit Board of Directors. Eligible Emerge Broward members are emerging leaders eager to serve, bring new perspectives, and make meaningful contributions as active nonprofit board members.
During the matching process, participating organizations will gain access to these talented, mission-driven young professionals committed to advancing a need in their community. The matching process heavily considers the need to diversify a nonprofit’s board. Whether its attracting younger board members who bring fresh ideas, have specific professional skill sets, come from diverse ethnic backgrounds, or all three, the Board Engagement Program will help cultivate a board that's truly representative of the communities each organization serves.
“Engaging young professionals in nonprofit leadership is critical for building strong, sustainable organizations that reflect the diverse voices of our community,” said Cathy Brown, Director of the Center for Nonprofit Excellence. “Through programs like Emerge Broward’s Board Engagement initiative, nonprofits benefit from fresh ideas, energy, and expertise, while the next generation of leaders gains invaluable experience in service and governance.”
The program is made possible through support from the Mary and Alex Mackenzie Community Impact Fund at the Community Foundation of Broward.

To be eligible to participate, nonprofits must be registered 501(c)(3) organizations. They should be willing to approve an Emerge Broward member for a one-year board term with full voting and committee rights, while waving any financial "give or get" obligations. All participating nonprofits will be invited to a matching fair on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Nonprofits will be notified of prospective matches in February 2026, and board terms will begin in March 2026.
Applications are open to all Broward County nonprofits. To apply and learn more, visit:https://bit.ly/EBboard-engagement.
