Discover Sandfontein: A Private Wilderness Reserve in Namibia

For those looking to get away from South Florida and escape to a destination completely off the grid, consider a trip to Namibia. Located far beyond the standard African safari circuit, Sandfontein is a 97,000-hectare private reserve situated along the Orange River.

The lodge accommodates up to 18 guests across five suites and the isolated Lost Poet Villa. Each suite features outdoor living spaces and star beds. Builders used local materials for the eco-conscious construction to blend the property with the environment. With zero light pollution and no neighboring properties, the reserve provides complete seclusion.

Sandfontein offers an immersion into regional history. The surrounding valleys and volcanic rock formations reflect thousands of years of tectonic shifts. The land preserves traces of early hunter-gatherer communities alongside battlefields from the early 20th century Nama-German conflicts.

Guests can participate in guided hikes to track wildlife like oryx, springbok, ostrich, and giraffe. The Orange River offers opportunities for kayaking and fishing. The property focuses heavily on conservation, recently expanding its boundaries to reintroduce native species. At night, visitors can sleep outdoors in the lodge’s StarBeds under the desert sky.

Sandfontein is available for exclusive use bookings only. Rates start at approximately $877 per person per night, including meals, beverages, and activities. Travelers can reach the reserve by road from Cape Town or via private charter flight directly to the property's airstrip.
