Dance NOW! Miami Opened Winter Program with “Winter’s Breath” and Jon Lehrer Dance Company

Dance NOW! Miami presented Program I on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Sanctuary of the Arts in Coral Gables, marking the company’s winter season with a program that brought together contemporary ballet, modern dance, and historical repertory.

The evening centered on Winter’s Breath, a ballet set to Antonio Vivaldi’s music as reimagined by composer Max Richter. Created in 2015 by Dance NOW! Miami co-artistic directors Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini, the work explored the atmosphere and emotional textures of the coldest months through sweeping movement and a sharply defined score.

Joining Dance NOW! Miami for the performance was New York–based Jon Lehrer Dance Company, appearing as a special guest. The company performed Here in Eden, a duet danced by Ricardo G. Barret and Cristiana Cavallo, noted for its physical intensity and poetic structure that reflected Jon Lehrer’s athletic and contemporary approach to modern dance.

The program also featured a special guest appearance by former Dance NOW! Miami dancer and rehearsal director Jenny Hegarty, who performed the solo There I Am, Here. Additional repertory included audience favorites Point of Departure and the love duet from Havisham!, alongside Ave Maria, a 1914 work by modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan.

Program I also introduced new work. Salterini premiered Deco-de, set to George Gershwin’s Lullaby, drawing inspiration from Art Deco design and Jungian psychological archetypes. Baumgarten presented a first showing of 1933, a cabaret-inspired piece examining the rise of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

The performance took place at Sanctuary of the Arts, located at 410 Andalusia Avenue in Coral Gables.
