Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami Premieres “Aurora’s Wedding”


Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami under the artistic direction of Eriberto Jimenez, presents the premier of “Aurora’s Wedding”, III act from Sleeping Beauty on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 p.m. at the Fillmore Miami Beach, 1700 Washington Ave. Miami Beach, Fl. 33139



Featuring recently exiled Cuban dancers who defected in Puerto Rico this past March, next to CCBM soloist and corps de ballet.  Their presence not only enriches the artistic diversity of the cast but also sheds light on the real-life challenges and struggles faced by artists around the world. Their journey of defection likely involves significant personal sacrifice and courage, making their participation in the ballet even more meaningful. This inclusion also serves as a reminder of the power of art to transcend political and cultural barriers, as well as the importance of providing a platform for voices that might otherwise go unheard, a testament to the human spirit's ability to persevere in the face of adversity.


“Aurora’s wedding” shows excerpts from Sleeping Beauty, a ballet in a prologue and three acts with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa. The premiere took place at the Marinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on 1890, and from that year forward The Sleeping Beauty has remained one of the most famous of all ballets. In the story a princess survives a spell of 100-year sleep that is broken by true love, on a celebration of their wedding their friends arrive dressed as characters from her beloved fairytale book. Aurora’s fairy godmothers bring lavish wedding gifts: gold, silver, sapphire, and diamond. After their wedding, they are crowned: they will succeed to the throne and will rule over the kingdom in peace and happiness.

"Aurora's Wedding" will be a mesmerizing ballet performance, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of Sleeping Beauty. This ballet promises to captivate with its magical storytelling and breathtaking choreography, with Tchaikovsky's timeless music setting the stage, audiences are sure to be transported to a realm of fantasy and wonder. It's an experience not to be missed for lovers of classical ballet and fairy tales alike.


The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami was founded in 2006 by Pedro Pablo Pena as a non-profit 501 (C) 3 with the mission to promote and preserve the tradition and legacy of the world-renowned school of Cuban classical ballet.
