PortMiami continues to raise the bar for the global cruise industry, hitting a series of historic milestones in 2025 that reaffirm Greater Miami and Miami Beach’s status as the undisputed Cruise Capital of the World.

In February, PortMiami hosted a record-breaking day with 10 cruise ships berthed, lserving nearly 68,000 passengers - an industry first. The momentum continued in April with the inaugural sailing of MSC World America on April 9. Departing from MSC’s new four-level, 490,000-square-foot terminal - the largest in the world - the ship introduced guests to a new level of Caribbean cruising from Miami. Also in April, Norwegian Cruise Line launched the Norwegian Aqua, the first ship in its Prima Plus class. Set to sail from Miami, it features innovations like the Aqua Slidecoaster and next-generation onboard experiences.

Most recently, Carnival Corp announced plans to expand its presence in Miami by opening a new global headquarters opening in 2028. The company has acquired property near Miami International Airport, where the new facility will be built.

These milestones coincide with the 40th anniversary of Seatrade Cruise Global, the world’s largest cruise industry convention. Held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the event drew over 600 exhibitors and thousands of cruise professionals, reinforcing Miami’s central role in global cruising. These milestones follow last year’s debut of Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship at the time.

PortMiami isn’t just breaking records - it’s redefining convenience for cruise travelers. Serving more than 8.2 million passengers a year, the port is a home base for top cruise lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC, Virgin Voyages, Disney Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises. Its prime location makes getting there effortless, with quick connections from Miami International Airport, high-speed Brightline rail service and ample nearby parking. Guests can take advantage of the Bayside Concierge Program, which lets them check their luggage early and enjoy the city before boarding - whether it's shopping at Bayside Marketplace, relaxing at Bayfront Park or visiting one of Miami’s acclaimed museums such as the Perez Art Museum.

Beyond world-class access and guest amenities, PortMiami is also leading the way in sustainable innovation. As the first major U.S. cruise port on the east coast to implement shore power, PortMiami allows ships to plug into the local grid while docked, reducing emissions and improving air quality. This $125 million investment supports up to five cruise berths and reflects Miami-Dade County’s broader commitment to climate resilience and environmentally conscious growth.

After disembarking, travelers don’t have to go far to continue their journey in comfort. A wide range of top-rated hotels is just minutes from the terminal, including The Elser Hotel, Gale Miami, InterContinental Miami, YVE Hotel, YOTEL Miami and CitizenM - each offering easy access to the best of the city before and after you set sail.

From sailing on the newest ships to exploring Miami’s cultural hotspots before you board, there’s no better place to begin your cruise adventure than Greater Miami and Miami Beach.
