Supportive clothing can be a complete game-changer when you are pregnant. Not only does it make regular activities easier, but it can also reduce pain, soreness, and fatigue as you get further along in your pregnancy. Here are a few of the biggest benefits.

Manage Swelling

Swelling is something almost every expectant mom will experience, and it can start to set in much sooner than you may think. Because of this, investing in a pair of compression socks or maternity compression stockings is a must.

This is particularly important for those who still need to spend extended periods on their feet while pregnant, as your ankles, feet, and even knees can swell quickly without the right compression clothing.

Reduced Pressure on Back, Shoulders & Neck

Back, shoulder, and neck pain will only become more and more common as your pregnancy continues. The extra weight on the front of your body will cause you to hunch, roll your shoulders, and you will constantly feel like you are carrying something heavy.

However, compression tops help distribute the weight across your body, similar to how backpack straps distribute the bag's weight across your back and shoulders. While it won’t fully relieve the pressure, it will be sufficient to keep you comfortable. It will also help you do the stretches and exercises you want to reduce pain in these areas.

Improved Posture

Speaking of hunched backs and rolled shoulders, pregnancy will also disrupt your posture. The extra weight will make you want to bend over at the hips more, and on tough days, you may struggle to sit up straight at all.

However, due to how compression clothing works, you will be able to maintain your posture and prevent further strain and stress on your lower back, neck, and even hips.

Reduces Pelvic Pressure

Pelvic pressure is another common issue that you may face, and compression clothing can help reduce it. In short, the pressure is caused by your growing stomach pushing down on your pelvis.

Compression clothing and a pelvic belt can help lift the stomach to relieve some of the pressure you feel, and will help to stabilize the pelvis. Long-term pelvic strain can also be felt after you give birth if you don’t manage it while pregnant.

Reduces Muscle Fatigue

Muscle fatigue is another issue you will face, and it is almost unavoidable. Carrying the extra weight will put pressure on almost every muscle in your body, and even walking is going to feel incredibly tiring after only a few minutes.

Compression clothing reduces this by reducing the need for your body to balance and stabilize itself, allowing you to reduce the amount of effort you need for everyday tasks.

Supports Your Growing Belly

As your stomach grows, the need for more support increases almost drastically from day to day. When combined with the muscle pain, joint pain, swelling, etc, being uncomfortable for almost the entire time you are awake can be a reality.

Additionally, you may experience an uncomfortable pulling and stretching sensation as your belly grows, and supportive clothing can help reduce pain.

Improved Support When Moving

Simple movements also become exceptionally uncomfortable as your pregnancy progresses. Whether it is walking, bending, lying down, or even just standing, pregnancy can make these activities more difficult.

However, supportive clothing and belly bands can make moving easier and more comfortable. Once again, it isn’t a perfect fix, but supportive clothing will keep you comfortable for most of the day.

Helps with Recovery

This varies from person to person, but muscle and joint pain is expected to some degree during pregnancy. The main problem is that there isn’t a ton you can do about it, especially in the later stages of your pregnancy.

Supportive clothing can improve your chances of recovery. As mentioned before, support clothing reduces pelvic pressure and stress on your shoulders, back, and other areas, making recovery easier.

Short-Term Support for Long-Term Comfort

One mistake that many expectant moms make when it comes to supportive clothing is that they choose to wear it too late. While it isn’t necessary in the beginning, you should start wearing supportive clothing earlier than you think.

This is because you don’t want to start feeling the strains and pains from pregnancy and then start wearing supportive clothing, as the benefits won’t be as great, as you will already be in pain and uncomfortable. Starting support early can save you from long-term pains, even after you have given birth.

Makes Daily Tasks Easier

Finally, unless you have a team of people to do everything for you, you aren’t going to be able to sit and relax all day, every day, when pregnant. You may still need to cook, clean, pick a child up from school, etc.

The last thing you want is for even the most basic of tasks to be a chore and something you don’t look forward to doing, even though you need to do it. Supportive clothing can help keep you active and relatively pain-free, and allow you to go about your day-to-day tasks without much difficulty.
