BUILT Inc., the multidisciplinary design studio founded by John M. Sofio, will host Built Miami Design Week 2026: Patterns in Design at its Little River studio December 1–6, 2026, during Miami Art Week. The six-day program introduces original hi-fi music consoles, a wood flooring collaboration with Italian manufacturer Listone Giordano, a collection of New Zealand wool rugs and new paintings by Florida artist KALI. Visitors will also have opportunities to meet the designers and artists behind the work and attend workshops led by Sofio.

BUILT’s approach to design grows out of more than three decades of creating some of the industry’s most impressive hospitality and nightlife interiors, including His extensive portfolio with The h.wood Group includes the new Bar Shi Shi Miami, Delilah, Employees Only, Katsuya, The Butcher's Daughter, 1OAK and more demonstrating his versatility across restaurants, private members' clubs, hotels and lifestyle destinations.

The eye-catching lights, furnishings, music, artwork and finishes work together to create spaces that are dynamic and memorable to the guest experience. During Built Miami Design Week 2026, the studio will present that same attention to detail through objects and materials developed for residential spaces and collectors.

“Our projects have always involved more than the layout of a room,” said Sofio. “We design the furniture, consider the materials and think carefully about the role of music and art. Built Miami Design Week 2026 gives us an opportunity to show that work at a different scale and share the ideas behind the new collections.”

Throughout the week, BUILT Inc. will display furniture, lighting, ceramics and artwork, with members of the design team available to discuss the pieces and their development. Live paintings by KALI will take place daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from December 1 to December 5.  A self-guided tour of nearby creative studios is also in development, connecting the program with Little River’s creative community.

Schedule of Events:

Hi-Fi Music Console Launch: QS1 and DS1 – Tuesday, Dec. 1 | 3-6 p.m.

Developed from Sofio’s experience designing custom DJ booths for nightlife venues, the QS1 and DS1 bring high-fidelity listening equipment into the home as a piece of art The QS1 features a sculptural chrome finish, while the DS1 pairs analog audio with a rosewood exterior. Designed as statement furniture for residential listening spaces, the QS1 and DS1 are built as sculptural, furniture-scale pieces, combining the functionality of a home sound system with the craftsmanship of a custom-designed furnishing. The two consoles offer distinct approaches to music playback, with the QS1 built around digital audio and the DS1 emphasizing analog listening. The launch marks BUILT’s return to residential furniture following its former retail presence in Los Angeles and New York City. Both consoles will be demonstrated live.

The centuries-old stone floors of Italy’s Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi find a contemporary expression in Assisi, a new wood flooring collection designed by John M. Sofio in collaboration with Italian manufacturer Listone Giordano. Following years of specifying the company’s flooring for BUILT projects, Sofio visited its factory and studio in Italy, where a trip to the basilica inspired the collection’s geometric compositions and interplay of natural materials. Three designs—Ascend, Giulia and Bella—translate those architectural influences into wood. Representatives from Listone Giordano will join BUILT for the collection's official unveiling.

BUILT will introduce eight original rugs made from New Zealand wool. Geometric patterns, strong contrasts and textured surfaces reflect the studio’s preference for expressive interiors and carefully considered materials. The collection extends BUILT’s custom furnishing work into a new product category; all eight designs will be available for purchase.

BUILT will launch its Miami artist-in-residence program with new work by Florida-based painter Kali Sierra, known professionally as KALI. Following a sold-out exhibition during Miami Art Week in 2025, she has developed a new body of work specifically for BUILT. Her paintings use loose, impressionistic forms that approach abstraction. Her work combines simplified figures, richly textured surfaces and references to historical objects, with paintings such as Sallie Gardner Under Stars, Reincarnated Matador and Another Votive for Pierre exploring subjects ranging from equestrian imagery to portraiture and artifacts through a contemporary lens. Visitors can watch her paint live in the studio during the week before the December 4 opening. The Miami initiative builds on BUILT’s artist-in-residence program at Wonder Lake Ranch in California’s Mojave Desert.

Sofio will lead a drawing workshop examining how an initial idea develops into a plan for a physical space. As a designer, Sofio draws on his extensive experience using hand sketching and visualization to translate abstract ideas into architectural concepts, making drawing an integral part of his creative process from initial inspiration to built environment. Through guided visualization and sketching exercises, participants will work from a concept to an original drawing they can take home. Advance RSVP required; limited seating. Email info@builtinc.com.

The closing workshop, “Analog vs. Digital,” explores how different modes of creative expression influence the artistic process and its outcomes. Led by Sofio, the interactive, discussion-based session will use the QS1 and DS1 music consoles as case studies to examine the distinctions between analog and digital sound and how these principles extend to other artistic mediums. Through listening demonstrations, interactive exercises and audience participation, guests will gain insight into how technology and traditional craftsmanship shape creative expression and design. Advance RSVP required; limited seating. Email info@builtinc.com.
