Broward Children’s Center 22nd Annual Miles for Smiles 5K Raised $27,000 to Support Children with Special Needs

In an effort to support medically fragile children and their families, Broward Children’s Center hosted its 22nd Annual Miles for Smiles 5K at Pompano Beach Community Park on Saturday, Nov. 15. Over 250 runners, walkers, families, community leaders, wheelchairs and strollers of all ages came together in the beautiful Pompano Beach Community Park to raise funds and awareness to support Broward Children’s Center.

Miles for Smiles raised $27,000 to benefit Broward Children’s Center, a nonprofit organization that has been serving infants, children and young adults with special needs since 1971. Proceeds raised support the Center’s crucial programs and medical, developmental and therapeutic services designed to meet the specific needs of infants, children and young adults who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile and their families.

Guests participated in a fun-filled morning featuring a family-friendly 5K, children’s activities, live entertainment, raffles, an awards ceremony and more. The event was attended by Broward Children’s Center’s team, board members and families and Broward County dignitaries.

Children receiving care at Broward Children’s Center, including those in electric wheelchairs, participated in the 5K route with assistance from more than 40 volunteers representing the International Institute for Health Care Professionals and Broward College’s Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program. Volunteers helped wheel participants and supported race-day logistics.

During the event, Broward Children’s Center executives presented the latest care innovations and technological upgrades at the facility, including new integrations of advanced ventilator systems, Masimo patient monitoring, and PointClickCare software. These upgrades now allow for connected, real-time patient monitoring and off-site physician access to medical histories, capabilities unique to Broward Children’s Center among freestanding pediatric care facilities in Florida.

“We are incredibly grateful for all those who sponsored, donated, ran, walked, strolled, volunteered and attended the 22nd Annual Miles for Smiles 5K,” said Broward Children’s Center CEO Marge Evans. “The fun-filled morning was made possible by our supporters who are committed to serving infants, children and young adults who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile. The annual event helped us raise the necessary funds to serve the Centers’ crucial programs and help us provide the continuum of services designed to meet the needs of each child and their families.”

Broward Children’s Center thanks its sponsors for their generous support, including Best Roofing, Broten, Citizens First Bank, Custom Mobility, Dascor, DMA, Evergreen Sweeteners, Gotheir Family, Jones Awnings and Canvas, Miami Kids Magazine, National Jets, Outback, Premier Aircraft, Pompano New Pelican, Publix, SAFCO, Smoothie King and Starbucks.
