Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami is marking National Mentoring Month in January by urging community leaders and professionals across Miami-Dade County to get involved in youth mentorship.

The organization, which has operated in South Florida for more than 60 years, connects children with adult mentors who provide guidance, consistency, and support. According to the nonprofit, mentorship plays a key role in helping young people build confidence, improve academic outcomes, and plan for their futures.

Throughout the month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami will share local mentor and mentee stories, recognize current volunteers, and host events and information sessions aimed at recruiting new mentors. Outreach efforts will focus on professionals, corporate partners, and community members interested in long-term civic engagement.

A new awareness initiative titled We All Have a Little in Common will launch on January 28 during a Miami Heat game. The campaign is designed to broaden participation by challenging assumptions about who can be a mentor and highlighting the personal impact mentoring can have on volunteers as well as youth.

Additional programming tied to National Mentoring Month includes media features, mentor appreciation activities, and corporate engagement efforts intended to strengthen the organization’s mentor network.

More information about mentoring opportunities is available through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami.
