Casino Nights at Home

Updated: May 3

There isn’t much that can compete with the excitement of a night at a casino. Getting dressed up, drinking champagne, and playing some of the best casino games while rubbing shoulders with people from all walks of life – and potentially winning, too – is a night to remember and a bucket list item for many.

Online casinos offer a way to get the fun and excitement of the casino without having to leave your house – you can get involved in high stakes poker games online, take part in live dealer blackjack and roulette, or play one of the thousands of slot games that are available. Online casinos can even give you a way to play when you aren’t at home, thanks to the proliferation of mobile apps and widespread 5G connections.

Going to the casino to play games can be expensive, once you have factored in the time to travel to the casino, the outfit choice, and paying for entry, food, and drinks – and that’s before you have got yourself some chips to play with. On the other hand, online casino play might be convenient, but it can get lonely.

What’s the middle ground? Well, how about creating a casino night at home?

You might want to make it a weekly or monthly event with some of your friends to catch up and have fun (and win some money from them, of course). You might want to create a casino night for a celebration – a birthday party, anniversary, or even for a stag or a hen night.

If you are looking to create the perfect casino night at home, here are some things that you need to consider.

What Games Do You Want to Play?

When you go to the casino, there are a vast number of games that you can play – but when you are organizing a casino night at home, you probably won’t have room for all of them. It might be worth choosing just a handful of games for your guests to play, perhaps the most popular like blackjack, poker, and roulette.

Furniture

Wherever you are hosting the casino night, there are some elements that you will need – and tables and chairs are important. You should aim for a table per game that you are playing, and you will want to make sure that there are enough chairs for each attendee to be able to sit at the same time.

Décor

Themed rooms are great fun, and you can really go to town on the décor side of things if you want to. When you think of casinos, you probably think of black and red (for cards and the roulette wheel, and the green baize on the tables that is the colour of money. You could ramp it up with some ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ signs if you want to bring the Sin City vibe to your evening.

Don’t forget lighting – you can create some mood using side lights, or go all out with a glamorous chandelier for that extravagant feeling, so your guests feel like they are at the Bellagio.

Music

While you might not be aware of background music when you are in the casino, you will want to create an ambience in your home – and there are different ways you can do this. You can emulate the big casino entertainment feel by playing some Rat Pack big band classics or go for an opulent classical orchestral compilation. Some people might want some stripped back jazz, while others might want to play the latest hits for an up-to-date feel. Don’t let the music overpower conversation and gameplay though, tonight is all about the games.

Food and Drink

You probably won’t want to have a sit-down meal if you want your guests to make the most of the casino games, but there is an awful lot you can do with a buffet, especially if you have a bit of imagination. Finger food will help your guests to continue playing while they eat, and it is less likely to interrupt the flow of the evening.

Drinks-wise, the world is our oyster. You won’t go wrong with champagne in tall flutes for your guests, but you might also want to add some themed cocktails (and corresponding mocktails for those who aren’t drinking alcohol for whatever reason). A full bar might be out of reach but try to have some favourites on hand – or ask your guests to bring their own bottle.

The Best Experience?

If you want to make this an experience to remember, you might want to think about hiring a team to help. There are companies that specialise in bringing casino nights to life, providing everything from the roulette wheel to servers and croupiers, so all you need to think about is what to wear and your strategy for winning at the poker table.
