Bakehouse Art Complex Expands Wynwood Norte Campus With Adjacent Property Acquisition

Bakehouse Art Complex has acquired an adjacent property at 533 NW 32nd Street, expanding its Wynwood Norte campus and advancing long-term plans for permanent cultural infrastructure in Miami.

The acquisition adds 0.3 acres to Bakehouse’s existing 2.3-acre campus and strengthens the nonprofit’s ability to move forward with a redevelopment master plan centered on affordability and artist support. The newly acquired parcel sits directly next to the main campus and creates the potential for up to 100 additional units of affordable artist housing, along with expanded studios, fabrication labs, public green space, and cultural gathering areas.

The existing eight-unit building on the site, currently in poor condition, is slated for demolition. In the short term, the property will be activated as a temporary community garden and public space.

The purchase was supported by multiyear investments from the Knight Foundation, along with contributions from the Braman Family Foundation, Debi and Jeff Wechsler, the Arison Arts Foundation, Christopher Carter and the Wege Foundation, and an anonymous Bakehouse board member. Legal counsel for the acquisition was provided on a pro-bono basis by Shahrzad Emami Shaw of Nelson Mullins.

Founded in 1985, Bakehouse Art Complex has grown into a key cultural anchor in Wynwood Norte, providing affordable studios, residencies, exhibitions, and public programs for artists working across disciplines. The expansion reinforces Bakehouse’s role in community-centered development and aims to preserve space for artists as Miami continues to grow.

More information about the organization and its future plans is available through Bakehouse Art Complex.
