Baglioni Masseria Muzza Resort & Spa: A Salento Escape Near Otranto, Puglia

My stay at Baglioni Masseria Muzza Resort & Spa offered the great introduction to Puglia, a region known for its whitewashed villages, centuries-old olive groves, beautiful coastline, and rich culinary traditions. From the historic streets of Lecce to the crystal-clear waters near Otranto, Puglia combines culture, nature, and relaxation in a way that feels distinctly its own.
And Baglioni Masseria Muzza Resort & Spa provided the perfect balance between discovering the region and enjoying the slower pace of life in Salento.

A Stay in the Heart of Salento
Located in the heart of Salento, between the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian coast, the property is about an hour’s drive from Brindisi Airport and just minutes from Otranto, with easy access to Lecce, the Alimini Lakes, Baia dei Turchi, and Grotta della Poesia.
Surrounded by olive groves and the quiet landscape of the Salento countryside, the property offers a sense of space and openness that is not always easy to find in Puglia. Unlike many of the region’s charming villas and coastal accommodations, where buildings can often be closer together, Baglioni Masseria Muzza provides room to slow down and relax while still keeping Otranto and the area’s main attractions within easy reach.
Originally a fortified 17th-century farmhouse built to protect rural life in Puglia, the masseria preserves its history through stone walls, traditional courtyards, and architectural details that reflect the region’s past. Walking through the property, I found a thoughtful blend of old and new, where historic elements are combined with modern spaces, Mediterranean gardens, and a large infinity pool overlooking the Alimini Lakes.

Rooms & Suites with Puglian Character
Although Baglioni Masseria Muzza features 40 rooms and suites, the thoughtful layout of the property makes the experience feel much more private and intimate. Spread throughout the masseria’s different areas, the accommodations blend naturally with the landscape, allowing guests to enjoy a sense of space and tranquility rather than feeling like they are staying in a traditional hotel.
The rooms beautifully reflect the natural elements of Salento, combining whitewashed walls, exposed stone, artisanal fabrics, earthy tones, and contemporary comforts. Every detail feels connected to the region, from the traditional materials used throughout the interiors to the private outdoor spaces that extend each accommodation.
My room included a spacious patio with a wooden gazebo, sun loungers, and outdoor seating, creating a quiet place to enjoy the surrounding countryside. Inside, I appreciated the generously sized bathroom and the classic Acqua di Parma amenities, which added a refined touch to the stay.

Accommodation options range from Deluxe Rooms and Junior Suites to larger categories such as the Duplex, Family Room, Deluxe Suite, and Salento Suite.
For guests looking for additional space and privacy, the Signature Suites showcase the Mediterranean style of the masseria through elegant finishes, natural materials, and generous layouts. The 1,001 sq. ft. (93 m²) Otranto Suite features two bedrooms, a living area, two bathrooms, and a furnished veranda overlooking the Salento landscape. The 1,173 sq. ft. (109 m²) Salento Suite, the property’s most exclusive accommodation, offers two bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, a private patio, and views of the surrounding countryside and sunset.
Dining in Salento
One of the highlights of my stay was experiencing the flavors of Salento through the property’s dining offerings. Breakfast at Mirto Restaurant was a wonderful introduction to the region, featuring local specialties such as artisanal pasticciotti, fresh burrata, cured meats, caffè leccese, fresh fruits, breads, pastries, juices, nuts, and a selection of made-to-order hot dishes.

Lunch and dinner focused on seasonal ingredients and traditional Puglian cuisine, including fresh seafood, local vegetables, salads, and regional dishes such as orecchiette with burnt wheat, turnip tops, and aged ricotta.
The Pool Bar became a relaxed spot for a light lunch or afternoon coffee, while the Sunset Bar terrace offered a beautiful setting to end the day with a cocktail overlooking the Salento countryside.
A Moment of Wellness
The Aura Spa provided a peaceful escape during my stay, with spaces inspired by the colors and textures of Salento and interiors featuring local white tuff stone. The spa includes a heated pool with hydromassage, relaxation area, Finnish sauna, steam bath, and Kneipp path.
Guests can also choose from a selection of treatments and rituals, while the Fitness Center, equipped with Technogym machines, provides a modern space for workouts.

Family-Friendly Experiences
Families are also well accommodated at Baglioni Masseria Muzza. The Baglioni Kids Club welcomes children ages 3 to 12 with activities including arts and crafts, ping pong, table football, singing, and dancing, giving younger guests their own space to enjoy while parents relax.
Discovering Salento
Beyond the property, one of the pleasures of staying here is the opportunity to explore the surrounding region. Experiences include private boat and yacht tours departing from Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca, and Gallipoli, visits to Lecce’s Baroque architecture, food and wine tastings, olive oil experiences, and truffle hunting (season permitting).

Renting a car is also a great option for exploring Salento at your own pace. The property offers complimentary parking, making it easy to discover the coastline and hidden beaches nearby. During my drive through the region, I found several beautiful spots away from the more crowded tourist areas, which added another memorable dimension to the experience.
Baglioni Masseria Muzza serves as a comfortable base for discovering the landscapes, traditions, and flavors that make Salento one of Italy’s most distinctive regions.
Amenities & Practical Information
During my stay, I appreciated the convenience of the property’s amenities, including complimentary WiFi throughout the resort and free private parking available on site. The complimentary shuttle service to Otranto was also a thoughtful touch, especially for guests who prefer not to drive or do not have a car, making it easy to explore the nearby town.
Guests traveling with pets can request accommodation for them (additional charges may apply), and families are welcome, with children of all ages accepted. Cots are available for children up to 3 years old upon request and subject to availability, while extra beds and cribs can also be arranged with advance confirmation from the property.
Check-in begins at 3:00 PM, and check-out is at 12:00 PM.
