Art of the Plate Brings The Palm Beaches’ Culinary and Cultural Identity to Miami Ahead of Art Basel

An intimate cocktail event at Nobu Miami introduced Miami guests to the culinary and cultural character of The Palm Beaches on December 3, just days before Art Basel Miami Beach. Titled Art of the Plate, the evening was hosted by Discover The Palm Beaches in partnership with the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County and the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.

The gathering took place in the outdoor Zen Garden at Nobu Hotel Miami Beach, where Japanese-inspired design met the tropical aesthetic often associated with Florida’s Cultural Capital®. Guests sampled Nobu Miami’s signature dishes and cocktails while learning more about the destination’s food, arts, and cultural institutions.

Visual art played a central role in the evening. Palm Beaches–based ceramic artist Lani Goodrich was featured for her handcrafted plates, which were displayed throughout the event space. Her work incorporated destination-inspired elements, including sculptural references to marine life such as sea turtles and snorkelers. Guests also received personalized keepsakes created on-site by a Japanese calligraphy artist, featuring their names rendered in Kanji characters.

Art of the Plate positioned The Palm Beaches as a destination where culinary craft, visual art, and cultural heritage intersect, offering a preview of the region’s creative identity to a Miami audience during one of the city’s most art-focused weeks of the year.
