Art Basel Names Wassan Al-Khudhairi Artistic Director for 2027 Qatar Fair and Sets Curatorial Theme
Art Basel has appointed Iraqi curator Wassan Al-Khudhairi as Artistic Director of the 2027 edition of Art Basel Qatar, presented in partnership with Qatar Sports Investments and QC+.
In the role, Al-Khudhairi will shape the artistic and curatorial direction of the fair in collaboration with Vincenzo de Bellis, Chief Artistic Officer and Global Director of Fairs at Art Basel, and will work with the Selection Committee on the gallery roster.
Drawing on experience that includes serving as Founding Director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Qatar, she will lead the 2027 edition under the curatorial theme “between / بين”, which considers states of being between as productive spaces that resist resolution and fixed definition.
The second edition of Art Basel Qatar will retain its curated format of focused solo presentations that respond to the theme, and will take place across Msheireb Downtown Doha from January 28 to 30, 2027, following Preview Days on January 26 and 27, with an expanded Special Projects sector offering immersive experiences.
