Armour Dance Theatre Celebrates Its 75th Year with Fifth Free Community Program Site in South Miami

In celebration of its 75th year, and as part of a continuing commitment to transform children's lives through dance and provide quality after-school programming accessible to all, Armour Dance Theater (ADT) announces the opening of its newest community program site for the 2023-2024 school year at South Miami Heights Elementary, located at 12231 SW 190 Terrace Miami, FL 33177. Registration for the 2023-24 school year opens in July of 2023.

Support for ADT to expand its innovative programs was made possible through private donor support and in large part by a 5-year 7.5-million-dollar grant from The Children’s Trust, which has provided cornerstone funding to ADT since 2011. With this increase in funding, ADT will impact 375 elementary age students through after school and summer camp programs. The Children’s Trust Board of Directors approved funding recommendations for ADT’s Youth Development initiative, its largest investment area. More than 140 programs, including ADT, were selected during a competitive Request for Proposals and review process.

Known as Miami’s Community Dance Conservatory, ADT provides community programming that include academic, social-emotional learning, homework assistance, and parenting components. Through ADT’s comprehensive arts education model, students develop resilience, delayed gratification, and a growth mindset to help master their craft, excel academically, and succeed in life through high school and beyond.

“Everyone at ADT is excited to be launching a fifth neighborhood site and updating our after- school classes to include a fresh focus on math. For decades we've seen our unique combination of artistic and academic instruction transform children's lives. We're proud that the Children's Trust believes in us enough to fund this expansion to serve more students with even better results”, stated Camila Gil, Executive Director, Armour Dance Theatre

ADT programs are currently active in Miami Gardens, Little Haiti, South Miami, Goulds, Miami Heights, and, now, South Miami Heights. This fifth location will expand ADT’s reach of these community-focused programs which provide significant academic and personal growth benefits to the youth participants.

Since expanding its time-tested program in 2014, ADT has monitored the impact of these programs with many participants achieving academic success and acceptance into exceptional magnet programs. ADT has a 30-year track record of using dance as a pathway to high school graduation and post-secondary opportunities.
