Amouage Remain Explores Time Through Scent

Amouage expands its Essences collection with Remain, a woody, spicy and ambery fragrance created by perfumer Pierre Negrin. Part of The Essences: Act II - The Geometry of Time, the fragrance explores time through an extended aging process and a 30 percent concentration of perfume oils.

Remain undergoes a multi-stage aging process that includes six months of oakwood barrel infusion of bioethanol, six months of infusion with sandalwood chips and an additional two weeks of maceration. According to Amouage, the process is designed to create greater depth and longevity than a traditional Eau de Parfum.

The fragrance opens with Hojari frankincense, mandarin, pimento berry and bergamot. At its heart are Madonna lily, ylang-ylang, juniper and jasmine, followed by a base of ambergris, guaiacwood, patchouli, vanilla and tonka bean. Sandalwood and oakwood provide the infusion patina that connects the composition to the collection’s aging process.

Vanilla plays a central role in Remain, moving between the fragrance’s spices and florals before settling into a base built around frankincense, sandalwood and woods. The result connects the perfume’s aromatic opening with its warmer ambery foundation.

Remain is also presented in the new bottle created for the Essences collection, marking Amouage’s first new bottle design in 15 years.

The fragrance is priced at approximately $550 and is available through www.amouage.com
