American Heritage Schools’ Fifth Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Benefitted Feeding South Florida

Determined not to let its community go without a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, American Heritage Schools Upper School PTO Broward Campus, in partnership with students, faculty and families, once again hosted its fifth annual “Thanksgiving Meal in a Bag” food collection drive at the School’s Broward campus to benefit Feeding South Florida – the leading hunger-relief organization serving South Florida. This holiday season, over 1.2 million individuals throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties are experiencing food insecurity.

 

During the food drive, American Heritage Schools students were invited to bring a reusable grocery bag filled with one of each of the following items: cranberry sauce, canned yams, canned vegetables, canned beans, mac and cheese, rice, instant mashed potatoes, a box of pasta, stuffing mix, canned soup, packets of gravy, brownie mix, peanut or nut butter, and a gift card for a turkey.

 

During the 2025 event, American Heritage Schools collected 15,483 pounds of food, which equals approximately 12,902 meals975 gift cardsfive turkey certificates and cash donations totaled $19,835. The students’ combined contributions impacted over 1,010 individuals and families who received holiday meals. This is a 9% increase from the 2024 event.

 

Students obtained volunteer hours for every donated “Thanksgiving Meal in a Bag,” regardless of their school. Feeding South Florida offered students three volunteer hours for each bag donated, with an opportunity to earn a maximum of 15 hours. Students were encouraged to bring as many bags as they wished and the Service Hours Form from their school for a Feeding South Florida representative to sign.
