2025 Miami Open Announces Addition Of Padel And Wheelchair Tennis Events

The Miami Open presented by Itaú has unveiled exciting new additions for its 2025 edition, with the introduction of the Publix Padel Cup and the return of the Wheelchair Tennis Invitational. This marks the first time both sports will be featured at a 1000 Series event.

The Publix Padel Cup, in partnership with RedPADEL and the U.S. Padel Association, will debut from March 27-30 at Hard Rock Stadium. This professional padel tournament, backed by Publix, will showcase 16 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams, all competing for a $25,000 prize pool. Teams will qualify through the NOVAC WPR Road to Miami Circuit, which offers over $65,000 in prize money through its qualifying tournaments.

Three custom-built padel courts from Padel Lux will be constructed on the Miami Open campus, including a fan-friendly Padel Lounge where visitors can learn the sport and participate in clinics. Padel fans will also be able to watch high-level competition throughout the four-day event.

Returning for a second year is the Miami Open Wheelchair Tennis Invitational, set to run March 26-28. After a successful debut in 2024, the tournament will feature some of the sport’s top players. Dana Mathewson, a 16-time singles and 32-time doubles titleholder, has been named Assistant Tournament Director after retiring from competitive play. Mathewson, a three-time U.S. Paralympian, expressed excitement for her new role and the opportunity to work alongside Tournament Director James Blake.

Blake also shared his enthusiasm for the expanded event. "We’re thrilled to welcome padel for the first time and to bring back the stars of wheelchair tennis. The positive fan response last year was overwhelming, and we're excited to build on that success," he said.

In addition to the on-court action, the 2025 Miami Open will feature enhanced off-court experiences, with new restaurants and partner activations to be announced soon.

The tournament will take place March 16-30 at Hard Rock Stadium, bringing the world's top ATP and WTA players to South Florida. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit miamiopen.com.
