125 Laptops Donated to Homeless Hurricane-Affected Florida Students Through Zakat Foundation of America

They’ve survived a hurricane, now they’re finishing high school without a home. Thanks to the gift of 125 laptops, donated by people who care, these Florida high schoolers can stay on track for graduation, for college, for a future they’re building.

The laptop distribution will take place on the blessed day of Eid al-Adha, Friday, June 6th from 10:00am-12:00pm at Boyd Anderson High School: 3050 NW 41st St in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. High school seniors will be given a laptop to support their dreams and help move them into their future. The event is a part of an ongoing partnership between Zakat Foundation of America and the HEART Program (Homeless Education Assistance Resource Team) to support students, many of whom have come to the United States from various countries and are struggling with being unhoused. The goal is to help empower these youth to rise above their circumstances and provide the tools, support and mentorship needed for them to succeed as young adults.

CM is a student living in Florida, separated from his parents who desired to pursue higher education in civil engineering. He shared, “the biggest thing they gave me was hope — hope that I could still have a future, even when everything seemed impossible”. A spokesperson from Zakat Foundation of America says, “We’ve been responding to disasters in the U.S. for over 20 years — but we know recovery isn’t just about food or shelter. For these Florida students, recovery means a shot at college, in the future. That starts with a laptop.”

Anyone wishing to support this initiative and support these ambitious high school students can donate at Zakat Foundation’s Website (under US programs). The media are also welcome to attend the Friday event.
