100+ Unseen Images in The Latest Volume of Slim Aarons' Photo Archives

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

Slim Aarons: The Essential Collection is an unprecedented survey of the groundbreaking photographer’s life and work. The luxe volume features the best of Slim’s previously published images, including hundreds of his most iconic photos.

The work also unveils more than 100 previously unpublished images recently discovered in the photographer’s collection, deep dives into key shoots from his career, and exclusive insight from former colleagues, friends, and family.

Beginning with his field work as an army photographer and his fledgling days in Hollywood, SLIM AARONS: THE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION then traces how Slim operated as a LIFE photographer in postwar Rome, developed a regular beat of fashion and travel shoots for Holiday, and traveled the world for Town & Country.

Getty Images curator Shawn Waldron offers a definitive biographical text bolstered with previously unpublished information. Award-winning journalist, historian, and New York Times bestselling author Lesley Blume provides historical context for how Slim got his start.

Slim’s former assistant Laura Hawk reveals the intricacies of traveling with him, while historian and Vanity Fair contributing editor Nick Foulkes explores Slim’s influence on our current cultural moment.

The result of intensive scholarship and research from Getty Images’ extensive archives, SLIM AARONS: THE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION is a significant tribute to Slim Aarons’s unmatched contribution to modern photography.

Getty Images, a preeminent global visual content creator and marketplace, acquired Slim’s entire archive of over 750,000 images in 1997, several years after his retirement.
